KMMNWLTH is about opening minds and providing innovative means to reach our people of the Pacific Islands! We are an organized network for the general good. We are involved and informed. We are more about action versus talk, but understand that we must discuss a plan of action before taking action. We are connected through our love for the region we call home sharing a passion to let others experience the lifestyle, arts, and culture. We come from everywhere building a unique kommonwealth of our own. We believe in the freedom of speech and encourage a voice to speak and a voice to question. Both exist on this platform to engage and discover solutions and more. We are the KMMNWLTH! We are the people!
AJ – we commend you for going the extra mile to find a way to make an impact while being so far from home. It is refreshing to see this generation working together as a movement for Revival. We stand with you in confidence and truly believe that this group will lead through recovery and build for the future. We believe they are sincere in their agenda and will stand united for the island. We are facing a crisis on our island and this vote is critical to secure a new path towards revival.
Island Session in conjunction with KMMNWLTH will present our timeline and mission. We want to thank those that have made history with us and those that have contributed to a successful campaign to Revive Rota! We are far from done and it has only just begun! We will get there!
It’s not easy to be a voice for the people and putting yourself in the frontline for all to attack and confront, but AJ Mundo is determined to make her voice heard and “will not settle for less for the island of Rota!” A strong, educated woman with a great family that supports her, she has embarked on a mission “to help the best candidate for her island” in the upcoming November elections.
KMMNWLTH believes we must all fight for what we believe in and is dedicated to giving pioneers a platform of expression. KMMNWLTH is also concerned about our islands, and “has a responsibility to push for open discussion and share the stories of people” like AJ Mundo who will be leading our islands into a better future.
Let’s Build our Plan of Action together….
ISSUE: Although we credit our long serving senator for some work he has done over the past 25 years, his participation in the downfall of Rota has deeply impacted our lives which has resulted in many challenges we now face today. In recent years, he has not explored other alternatives to help the residents with these new challenges. His promise to lead us to the future has failed and we, the people of Rota, are now exploring other options to revive and recover from this leadership.
DESIRED OUTCOME: Rota recovers from this downfalls and revives the economy over time. Rota prevails and discovers new ways for a new time!
STEP 1: Expire Senator Paul Manglona’s contract with the people of Rota on November 6, 2012. Replace him with Victor Hocog who will lead us to recovery and open roads for our generations to lead.
We propose an open forum to discuss why we believe this plan of action will succeed. Step 1 can only work if we rally together and work with the next leaders of our islands.
Victor Hocog will work diligently to implement our vision and plan of action created with the people.
Dear Voters of Rota:

Sincerely Yours,
/s/ Victor B. Hocog & Representative Teresita A. Santos
For Senate For Congress (Incumbent)
OUR VISION
As residents of Rota, we can all stand and attest before us the two most critical issues that contributed the painful experience in our day to day livelihood.
Therefore, Terry and I both shared the same sentiments with our residents residing in this small community; and we also both agreed to make the following commitments our foremost priorities when elected.
I. Our two top platform priorities:
A. Prioritize and aggressively work toward engagement with investors for an alternative energy provider. The municipality of Rota deserves to provide its people and business community for a reliable and affordable utility rate cost.
B. Aggressively work toward engagement with investors that can provide reliable and affordable freight cost from its shipping business venture. This is very attainable and we pledge to find this investment of interest to make Rota their homeport from their shipping business.
II. Other Platforms:
A. Seek legislation for a new revenue making business opportunity to aide critical programs presently posting real threat from its abolishment or from depletion of its services to members of our community such as:
• The CNMI Retirement Fund
• Hospital and other Health Services
• Education
• Scholarship
• Vocational Trade
And other vital and pressing programs that are presently providing both services and benefits to the people of the Commonwealth.
B. Seek Legislation to provide financial programs such as Cash on Scale to promote our local farmers, ranchers and fishermen to participate in the growth of our local economy.
C. Seek legislation and/or assistance for a U.S.D.A. certified and centralizes public kitchen facility to allow our local business interested in doing Added Value form of business opportunity and for marketing purposes.
D. Seek business friendly legislation to entice entrepreneurs be it U.S. Citizens or foreign investors to make Rota their business partners to ensure economic growth for both our people and our island.
E. Revisit and Re-Activate the Free Trade Zone Law for investment and investors business opportunity.
F. Aggressively seek financial assistance to ensure Rota’s hopeful industry (our casino) to move forward for our future opportunities; and
G. To ensure our Island of Rota for its
Recovery
Opportunity
Trade and
Alternative development
Terry and I are hopeful that with the above platforms for our people, our island and our culture will provide our residents with a sustainable economy and levelize the painful livelihood in our day to day life.
WE THANK YOU ALL!
Vic and Terry
For Senate & For Representative (Incumbent)

Love what you are doing and I hope to share just as freely as you do. Thanks for shining light on our island and saying what needs to be said!
I would like to say that people who hide behind fake profiles do us no good and never have anything really constructive to say. We need to be seen and heard to really make a difference! Keep doing what you do AJ!
I am motivated more than ever. Why? This movement to revive Rota means so much to me. 24 years of publice service….wow isnt it amazing! I blame myself for some of those years. My job now is to dismiss this contract effective immediately. I f can put you there I can take you out. That is the first and foremost in ghe movents agenda. That way we can start reviving Rota. The next priority on our agenda is to Hire VicTery. I am confident that these two will deliver the quality of work to have Rotas heart beating again. Thank you and you eill br hearing from me again..
Your service should be recognized with the others who have invested their lives to build our beautiful island! Thank you for coming forward and taking the first steps of evaluating self – once we can admit that we must do more then it all seems to come together. I agree that we must start somewhere and it is time to turn this ship around and look for new approaches and solutions that make sense for the majority. Let’s start building!
Leng,
I love the choice of word that you use: Revive Rota. To further define our island Rota, We can safely say that our island needs to expedite reform. As your candidate I am dedicated to ensure RECOVERY and to provide various OPPORTUNITIES to our people. But still we need to bring incentive and various kind of TRADES to our island and encourage both US businesses as well as foreign investors to come to Rota to establish developments and other ALTERNATIVES. That is what ROTA in today’s economic depression will certainly need.Teri and I have the vision and the tools to make that dream come true. Thank you and continue to express your thoughts and foresight for Rota’s future.
A COMMENT POSTED BY Manglona For-Senator on Team VicTery’s page:
Manglona For-Senator says:
I hear quite often from your supporters “to stop career politicians.” Yet, they support you for Senator when in fact Mr. Hocog, you are a career politician. Your supporters (not all) are hypocritical and should give thought to what they say before saying it. The only difference is, in no disrespect, is that your political career was not consistent. You’ve had your share of defeats, and although your career may not be one of success, it was indeed a career nonetheless.
Furthermore, we hear more from your supporters a lot of negative things about Paul & Felix. In all honesty, they barely, almost never, say why you are a better choice (in their opinion). Maybe you can provide them facts as to why they should vote for your team so that they can use it when they campaign on facebook or anywhere else. We, supporters and non-supporters, are tired of the negativity you are spreading, but if this is your tactic, maybe you can slightly adjust it to make room for a little bit of respect and maturity. I, too, have been and continue to request for a proper exchange of ideas and support for either party.
Finally, respect is a two-way street. But for some reason, it seems like the road you’re on meets a road block. Our focus is to share why our candidates, Paul & Felix, is the BEST choice for Rota. Our focus is not to talk dirty about Vic and Tery. If you come across a supporter that seems to be disrespectful towards your candidates, it is in defense of ours.
Thank you for your attention and we wish you luck! In the end, whatever the outcome, we are ONE people, ONE Rota, ONE Family! Much love and respect
TEAM VICTERY’S RESPONSE
Thank you Manglona For Senator for taking the time to visit our page, and comment on it. As supporters, we leave you with this constructive message. You couldn’t have said it better and we quote you, “if you come across a supporter that seems to be disrespectful towards your candidates, it is in defense of ours.” As voters, our emotions are worn on our sleeves, especially when expressing our disappointments, dissatisfactions, and frustrations with the current situation. Please do not insult us by twisting our words to make it appear that we have no sense at all. Remember, that we are citizens of Rota too and for you to say that we are hypocrites, then my friend, that’s like the pot calling the kettle black.
You accuse our candidates and us supporters for agreeing with the Governor s statement that the people of Rota are stupid. It’s funny because even people without degrees (which does not make a difference, in other words the average “joe”), understood who he was referring to, you (unfortunately). But we are a bit confused because you use this to attack our team however your daughter and wife have both been quoted on Facebook agreeing with the Governor that the people of Rota are stupid or “..there are stupids around.” (Manglona, Lydia, March 2012) Would that constitute as being a hypocrite? I only ask you because the VicTery supporters are always accused of being educated, but fail to act appropriately. Again my friend, that’s like the pot calling the kettle black. By the way Deannna shouldn’t poke fun at the people of Rota being na’mase’ (tsk, tsk, tsk).
“…yes we do credit our long serving Senator for some work he’s done over the last 25 years..I hold myself responsible for having supported him 4 years ago for a better Luta..but I also hold him accountable for his participation in the downfall of Rota..During his tenure this term, his performance appraisal is due and many us through assessments agree that his performance this past four years is unsatisfactory…” (Mundo, Alys; April 2012). Thank you Manglona For Senator and BIba Paul-Felix for enlightening us with what Senator Paul has done for the people of Rota. We are thankful and grateful for the positive work. But please educate us as well about the future plans of Senator Paul and Mr. Santos. It appears that Senator Manglona is busy attacking the Governor and pointing fingers rather than coming up with solutions.
Majority of the VicTery supporters have been supporters of Senator Paul election after election, and we put him there, but we are tired of the redundancy. “…. it has been long over due. Its almost like when you rent your favorite movie and never want to return it cuz you love the movie so much. After awhile u get tired of it,so you go and rent another one.” (Quitugua, Garren, 2012). Senot Manglona esta dinidingu hao nai tiempo. We can’t continue to accept the same old politics from tiempon trust territory. We want new and innovative ideas that go hand in hand with the times, and this is what VicTery is offering us. Teresita Santos is doing an awesome job despite being a freshman lawmaker, and in spite of her critics making fun at her resolutions. Those resolutions recognize the small people (the same small people that put you in office) that make a difference, but are often overlooked because maybe “..they are na’mase’..”(Manlgona,Deana,2012). Victor and Teresita share the same views and believe that the people of Rota deserve much more than what Team Paul-Felix is offering. WE DESERVE BETTER, and on November 06, 2012, WE WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Our candidates welcome anyone and everyone to come and listen to their ideas and plans to REVIVE ROTA. Their doors are always open for constructive criticism and ideas from the lovable Rotanese. So stayed tuned for we will be posting their plans. Victor B. Hocog and Teresita A. Santos continue to encourage us, supporters to be positive and ignore the negative comments from your team. As supporters, we are very passionate and sometimes it gets the best of us, as you may agree you do the same. Each person is responsible for their words and actions, and our candidates are not responsible for our actions. So please quit using this as an argument.
Thank you and Good luck as well.
Respectfully Yours,
Supporters of Team VicTery
Here’s a response from Manglona For-Senator
You must have been mistaken. Attacks were first brought upon by your side. I have copies of posts from your side with accounts to when they were posted. It will show that there was nothing defensive about those posts. Instead, they were offensive, rude and classless. So please do not fool anyone to think you are the victim.
Unfortunately, if you read more than just headlines, you’ll know that Fitial called the people of Rota and Tinian stupid. Even though he claimed it was in reference to their lawmakers, individuals of intellect would know that it was to the people from those islands. Why? Do not forget that these Senators voted down the casino indicative because they knew it was not right to go against the majority (people of the CNMI) who have already turned it down twice. They knew it was wrong to act on something that the majority wouldn’t approve and therefore wanted to leave it up to the people instead of conforming to the govrrnor’s wish and disregard the people they represent. So, I hope you understand now, that man called us all stupid!
You say Senator Paul is like a favorite movie you got tired of…well great news for you! That movie has been digitally enhanced and now is in 3D. You are sure to never get tired of it ever again!!! Mr. Hocog in the other hand is like your very first Nintendo. It worked once upon a time and you’re not sure if it still does. You know want to dust if off and hope it works. But then you realize after blowing and tapping the cartridge numerous times, it will never work again. So what do you do, you buy a PS(Paul-Santos)3 and you’re happy again!
Now in all honesty, I liked terry. However, this changed when I realized she had no back bone and no voice. She did what the governor says. Now in all honesty, I liked terry. However, this changed when I realized she had no back bone and no voice. She did what the governor says. Please look back at her initial actions when the budget bill was trying to be passed. She favored Fitial’s decision and therefore was part of the reason for the prolonged government shut down. She did not stand up to him nor had the best interest of the people of the CNMI in her heart. She waited until great damage has been caused and until there was so much pressure before she changed her mind. And as a result she lost her title and office space! PLEASE!!!! She’s not leadership material! And what I said are facts.
Your candidates are good people, but not better choices for the seats in the coming election. I’m sorry, but I’m throwing away my Nintendo and popping my favorite movie in 3D into my PS3!!
Love this Blog AJ! You are advocating for an amazning cause and Im glad to see someone stand up for our Island brethren! You do have my whole support! Ur song is coming soon!
I am new and learning. What are Victor and Terry’s plans? We talk talk talk about who is the best candidate, but actions speak louder than words. And a plan that is to be a fantasy is no plan at all… same goes for Paul and Felix, what is their plan?
AJ, I applaud you for your courage in moving forward with this movement revive, our beautiful island of Rota..I am motivated to join this movement and participate in sharing ideas to help revive Rota for prosperity..Together, we will fight to overcome these challenges…Again, thank you..
All in…Biba Revive Rota!!! Biba Luta…Vote Victery Team..Revive!!
All in…Biba Revive Rota!!! Biba Luta…Vote Victery Team..
We love seeing this fervor for Rota’s future build in a positive manner. The outcry for Change is overwhelming. The old ways of politics will not work for us anymore. We do not want families torn apart. We do not want to sit back and watch another term pass without progress. It is urgent for use to exercise our right to vote no matter what side youa re on, but make a commitment to vote for the Best for Rota!
Hello,Hello,Hello. Thanks for the invite AJ. I see u getting bz. Abosolutely to the community I call my own Rota come along and join the venture to ride this wave that we are all in. Speak up and be heard. As a matter of fact lets shuv the negativity behind and focus on whats at stake. Not only revive Rota but revive to survive Rota. Only we can make these changes. This would be an excellent medium AJ, to address, assess, analyze and brainstorm issues that we face current, and drive foward into the direction that we desire as a whole. Thanks lets do it.
I really enjoy this unconventional forum. It’s fun to see the differed views we have on our poor island. I believe in team VicTery because both candidates have the rights tools and I believe try can get Rota back on it’s feet. Thanks to everyone on both sides who come and visit this blog.
I say this with no disrespect, but wasn’t it Paul’s supporters who helped your dad get into office and the same supporters who tried to help your dad during his re-election?
We appreciate every comment and we want to hear from all sides. I do know they did work together in the past. What I would like to know is where the relationship went and why are they on opposing sides now? Does this political strategy sound familiar? I think the support went both ways and also helped Paul as well. On thing we do notice is there has not been a constant in regards to support with the senator. Why have these relationships not remained?
We can only assume that they are in opposing sides because of Paterno’s relationship with Vic and Elizabeth’s relationship with Villa.
In this day and age, it’s who you know…..
Thats not the only reason why my family is supporting my Uncle Vic. We believe in VicTery’s mission for a better Rota. We, the people of Rota, have not heard the ideas of the PF candidates. What is their mission? What do they plan to accomplish? How do they plan to accomplish their mission? These are the things we want to hear.
Paterno and Elizabeth? Not too sure what you mean by that? I agree we can only assume, but I have also heard many sides of wrong doing, lying, manipulating, negativity, on Paul’s end – it’s overwhelming and also there are more sides to a story. Once we started this campaign to Revive Rota we have heard many sides and many have shared their stories in confidence saying they support this wind of change and a call to action. We are again pointing fingers at Paterno and Elizabeth and making assumptions – their is a bottom line. What have you done for us lately? Why is our island suffering from so much? Why are we embedded in a family fued versus what candidates can do? 25 years of this and we must say enough is enough! No more assumptions, no more chances, no more sitting on the sideline and not voicing what we demand for our island! The bottom line is Paul did not take the neccesary steps to prevent the futher collapse of our islands infrastructure, economy, and spirit!
No. It was my dad’s supporters (the people of Rota) who elected him into office.
Yes it was Paterno’s supporters who allowed another term for Paul. Now that we see it is the same thing over and over again with him, it is time to make this change and expired Paul Manglona’s contract as a public servant! Why is this political strategy reoccuring the more we examine Paul’s time served?
Paterno Hocog is not seeking office, so I do not understand your comment on this. But since you brought it up, I will educate you on the behind the scenes of politics, if you don’t already know. When Paterno Hocog was seeking re-election, he aligned himself with Victor Hocog, who was running for Mayor against Mayor Melchor Mendiola. We were specifically advised not to give Paterno Hocog our votes, because they were not supporting Mayor Melchor Mendiola. They did not want Victor Hocog to win, because Senator Paul knew they cannot make Victor their puppet, so instead they secretly aligned themselves with Melchor Mendiola, who is now his puppet. This after Senator Paul had encouraged Steve Mesngon, who was also running, to join the bid for mayor and then ditching him in the middle of the race. The opposing team will say otherwise, but I don’t care what they say because I KNOW!!
I know we are trying to move forward and address the issues at hand that are urgent to Revive Rota, but it is so frustrating to hear these accounts and not be angry and fed up! This practice of dirty politics is something that has been spoken about throughout the career of Senator Paul Manglona. We cannot let this continue, therefore, it becomes a current issue we need to address – We need to give some knowledgable candidates with a plan a chance like we have continued to give Paul.
Yes, we do encourage all party supporters to engage in discussion! We cannot Revive Rota without getting everyoone’s support! Our miussion continues beyond September and we will not give up until we see neccesary steps taken to secure our direction and we will continue to put pressure on those in offices to do the best job they can for our Islands. One island at a time.
Revive Rota ..Yes indeed! you are doing a great job. stay the course cuz you’re definetly making an impact amongst the young generation and the undecided.I would like to share with you and others that in Rota,we are experiencing a great political movement for VicTery and this of course, is leading to VICTORY because majority of our grassroots, our young voters and even nonvoters/visitors are no longer fearful to express themselves and make known their choices. If we can vote Paul in, we can vote him out.Is this negative voters/supporters? This time VICTERY in and Time to Paul down.
Thank you for your suppoort of this platform and we applaud you for being active and taking a stand! You assure us that our message is being heard and that we too can voice our opinions and have discussions that really matter. In response to your querstion about being negative – You are not being that, you are exercising your right to vote for the best candidate and you are leading by example!
Hafa Adai manana-hu yan manelu-hu. As adults, we should be able to converse in a respectable manner without being disrespectful. Let’s remember that our children look up to us, and micmic everything we do. We are their role models. We must live by what we teach, so let our actions and words be respectful. This is an awesome site for everyone to voice their opinions without discrimination. One love my fellow Rotanese! WE ALL HAVE A COMMON GOAL, A BETTER ROTA FOR EVERYONE!!GET OUT THERE AND REGISTER TO VOTE. LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD AND BE PART OF MAKING A DIFFERENCE
We cannot let this election pass and not think about our children and what we want for them. What we do not want is them to suffer from our lack of action and inability to see beyond party colors and family ties. We need to support the candidate that is willing to work harder than ever to prevent a collapse in infrastructure, a economic crisis, and a disconnect between people and public servant. All we are doing this for is our youth. We hope to show them what “People Power” can do and how we can also admit to our mistakes (continuing to elect the same repeat offenders to office) and take action to change our ways.
The only reason I hide behind a name is due to the fact that I work in a place where choosing a side could get people thinking I might be making unfair decisions. So with that, I apologize if what I am about may seem like I am hiding behind a mask when in fact I am just a concerned citizen who values my job.
The ONE MAIN reason I am sticking to Paul-Felix is because Paul has his allies with the 2 Rota senators and 3 Tinian senators which gives the two smaller islands the upper hand in decisions that affect the minorities. Although it may seem like they will use their voting power to always undermine Saipan lawmakers’ decisions, they base their decisions as a Commonwealth. If they feel like the laws will negatively affect Rota and Tinian, they vote against it. (Take the casino as an example) The problem I am looking at is what will happen to the dynamics if Victor takes seat? As we all know, he is aligned with the Governor who has not always made reasonable decisions, and now we see Pete is supporting him which can only make us assume that he will vote on the Saipan side. All he would have to do it convince one Rota or Tinian Senator to switch sides. I am not saying that Saipan always gets what they want, but that Tinian and Rota senators have always put the three islands on their agenda and not just every man for himself.
Don’t get me wrong. Victor is an amazing individual. I believe he has what it takes, just as Paul does. But if we are going to be living on this island under the Fitial administration, then now is not a good time for Paul to be taken out. Paul is not afraid to argue against the Governor. Picture what will happen if he had gone with the Governor.
As you can tell by my comment, I mean no disrespect to both parties, but I just want people to realize that in order for our islands to get better, we must also change the man on the top. Fitial.
To sum it all up, Rota will not be where it is at without the help of all islands. Rota is just a fraction of what needs to be done. You may say Victor will revive Rota, but I say Paul will revive the entire Commonwealth.
We understand that there has been a culture of fear to show your support of candidates you believe in. We understand that jobs have been lost due to exercising your right to vote and supporting a party. We understand that many cannot afford to lose their livelihood and remain silent. We cannot continue to operate this way because we sacrifice our island in the process. There is a difference between constructive criticism and valid arguments in comparison to attacks and false accusations made leaning close to libel/slander.
In regards to the allies formed and the power they hold, it is a double egded sword because this alliance can make decisions that do not help our islands solely for the purpose of making a statement – exercising their power. These allies – 2 Rota senators and 3 Tinian senators who give the upper hand in decisions that affect the minorities – will continue forth if the newly elected reporesentatives are truly working for the islands and not each other.
The only way for us to do better is to be done with our old ways and elect new people into office and hold them to higher standards and more scrutiny. We cannot allow the same politics to take over and we will not! We must examine all areas and share opinions, but in a constructive way. I thank you for engaging comment and for focusing on the issues not sides. #Salute
“The only way for us to do better is to be done with our old ways and elect new people into office and hold them to higher standards and more scrutiny”
How is Victor new? Victor has held several leadership positions. Does his time away from office give him the title to be branded new?
I say we need someone “NEW” and by that definition of new, it has to be someone who has never held a seat. Otherwise, we are stuck with the two career politicians. But because Paul-Felix has yet to start a campaign, it is premature to select the better choice. However, based on how VT has been conducting their campaign (negativity/bashing), my vote is leaning towards the PF team.
Victor Hocog may not be new to politics, but he also has not held over 2 decades in office with little to show for his tenure. What I do know about Victor and Terry is that they have a platform that I believe will help Rota in it’s current state.
Someone who has never held a seat is not the answer either – the right candidate needs some knowledge of working in this political structure and Victor has that knowledge. If Paul did a better job then maybe he would be the one to Revive Rota – but he is not and his years in office brought us to where we are now with other factors ofcourse. There is a difference between lack of leadership and power with an alliance for your personal agendas. Maybe if Paul was only in for 4 years I would grant him another chance at trying to fulfill his mission and we have time and time again? How many more years are we willing to sacrifice? And if nothing is done to assist our downward spiral once re-elected – do we find ourselves in the same position with his family saying he has done this and that yet the public has nothing to show for this hard work. I know Victor is not responsible for this and he is not “new blood” either, but to Revive Rota we need a balance of both – knowledgable and forward thinking.
In regards to the Negativity in the campaign – Victor is not endorsing these statements, and he is not a reflection of this – the public is using their voice and their is a reason for them to be upset and negative because some want to us take the same road we have traveled on for too long! We have supported a culture of this style of campaigning and Paul is famous for using this negativity if I recall correctly. No one is innocent in this negativity in politics in Rota – why are Paul supporters making these words the highlights of their campaign? We have more pressing issues – but if these words are the basis for your decisions – I must question where “taking action” falls in your hierarchy? I respect your opinion and as always thank you for sharing them with us. The best thing we can do is spark debate and consider all sides. Your active pacticipation is what we need on our island and I hope to work with you on our campaign to Revive Rota no matter what the outcome!
We have voted for Senator Paul for a long time, hence giving him the title of “longest serving lawmaker”, and we are tired of the same old story. We want something different, someone with new ideas and innovations. Paul is stuck in trust territory times, and it is hard for him to see beyond that. Both teams are guilty of negativity/bashing, so don’t point fingers at only one side because from where I am standing I surely do not see a halo floating over the PF team. So can we move on from that. It doesn’t do us any good to keep pointing fingers on who started the bashing, WE ARE ALL GUILTY! I am surprised you were not entertained with the recent PF campaign this past weekend. Oh wait! That’s right they were busy campaigning, where no one can hear them but the fruit bats, cows, pigs, and deer. Just like you can be persuaded to vote for VicTery, me too I can be persuaded to join PF, but lana’ they don’t want to share their plans, except to the elite few. I guess I do not fall in that category.
to gilita.observer:
What happened over this past weekend was not a campaign for the whole island to hear but more of a preparation for whats to come. It was put together to prep the supporters who were present for what is needed to take place in the upcoming months. So before we go quickly to judge what was being said or how it was being conducted, give them the opportunity to meet as a team before heading out and spreading their words. It’s all about preparation my friend.
Not trying to offend you, but it’s funny how you’re contradicting your statements..
Jade – no offense, but preparation has been 25 years in the making. What more time do you need to prepare? It seems like a strategy to win votes is what is needed and I pray that it is not the same strategy used throughout these decades.
When an individual decides to become a leader, that individual must be a leader long before he/she plans to pursue that avenue. A person who decides to run for office must be someone who does good in the sense that they do it because they enjoy doing it and not because they suddenly plan to run for office. For those ordinary people we call leaders, they are seen throughout our community doing community work which needs no recognition nor appointment to perform such duties.
The following individuals, although do not plan to run for office, displays characteristics of a leader without the intention of seeking recognition, but do it out of the kindness of their hearts. Mr. Bill Hocog has been seeking ways to expand our local business. Mr. Calvo (Pat Calvo’s husband) dumps the trash people leave behind at the East Dock. Baseball coaches who volunteer their time to help the kids out. James Manglona, Brian Mendiola, and Shaw Taisacan, spend their time assisting our longest serving priest, Mosignor Luis Antonelli, and the list goes on.
Although we cannot say the same for Paul as he has been in office, Victor has failed to display such characteristics during his time out of office. Someone who sits back and gathers “AMMO” to use for their election, IN MY OPINION, is no leader. If the individual felt that their elected leaders were not doing their job, it is their duty as citizens to voice out their concerns to the public and their leaders. They should have been activists for the silent at the time a bad decision was made. They should have been at public hearings to voice their concerns. Yet, they fail to do all those. Was that their way of building “AMMO” for election time? Is that the way to revive Rota?
Because this is a forum for individuals to voice out their concerns, I try to make my comment respectable to both sides of the parties. I may hold these issues dearly, but I am easily persuaded if someone can shed some light to some of my concerns which will be posted periodically.
Again, no disrespect to either sides. I just want to make sure that I am choosing a side that will protect my interest.
“When an individual decides to become a leader, that individual must be a leader long before he/she plans to pursue that avenue. A person who decides to run for office must be someone who does good in the sense that they do it because they enjoy doing it and not because they suddenly plan to run for office. For those ordinary people we call leaders, they are seen throughout our community doing community work which needs no recognition nor appointment to perform such duties.”
I guess this leaves out Felix Santos. Right? My friend, Victor has done a lot of things that goes unrecognized, because he is not the type to be boastful and show off what he has done. He has helped individuals in the community, who have come to him in search of his help, and I know because I am one of them. Not once did I hear Victor Hocog share what he has done for me. The one thing I honor about Victor is despite the fact that I did not support him during past elections, because I believed in my gayu’ (Paul Manglona), he was not hesitant to lend me a hand. How do you know Victor never approached Paul about issues or ideas, and Paul just chose not to listen? People claim that Victor is a puppet of Fitial, ai adai, that’s such a lame campaign argument. If you do some research you will find some instances that Victor has gone against the Governor. We are all allowed to disagree on issues, but at the same time find a common ground to work together. If people want to get rid of the Governor then those people should work on impeaching him, instead of keep complaining and pointing fingers. Half of them, including Paul, were the ones that put the Governor there, and now Paul wants to complain. I think the Governor didn’t give him something he wanted therefore making him look like the bad guy. Well, if that’s the PF argument, then my argument is this. Just like how they are unhappy with how the Governor has been behaving, then me too I am tired of how Paul is behaving. The difference is I am doing something about it and I am not voting for Paul.
There are a lot of things that Senator Paul, including his father, Prudencio has done but have not been caught. Or people don’t question, because they’ve trusted them. Or they are silent due to fear. Just like you are hiding behind a fake name, cause you are afraid of the impact it will have on your career. So same thing as us non elite people. We have been silent for a long time because of fear, but not anymore. Bashing is part of politics, and this is evident every where including the Presidential election, you hear Obama bashing Ron Paul and vice versa. SO I don’t know understand why people are all of sudden shocked. Excuse me? This has been going on like Fokai says “since ever since”. As a matter of fact, this is how Senator Paul campaigns and now we supporters are giving him a taste of his own medicine. Do not credit Victor or Terry for statements I’ve made. I make my statements based on my experience being with the Paul Manglona team for a decade. If you are truly undecided, please don’t let the negativity sway you. I suggest that you speak with the candidates personally and find out what their plans are. Victor and Terry have been talking about their plans, so I don’t understand how you are not aware of it. They campaign outside of the jungle, unlike PF (who chooses to hide) so the whole Rota can hear what VicTery has to offer.
Okay, so Vic’s not the one to boast or show for his achievements. The point I was actually trying to make was even though people do not seek recognition, if they truly are leaders, their actions (whether in office or as a citizen) should reflect somewhere at some time. An activist or an avid leader should fight harder for what he or she believes in. If you say who knows Vic approached Paul and he didnt listen. Well, then Vic did not try hard enough. If he felt that the actions Paul has done while in office did not reflect the decisions of his people, then something should have done because once that decision is made, it becomes very hard to overturn. Take Dr. King for example, or Rosa Parks. They are activist. They fought for what they strongly believed in until change was made. Why wait until not to make a move when election is up. In order to Revive Rota, actions must be done when law makers are in office. After all, they do work for the people. Suggestions must be made and constant follow-ups must be seen through otherwise, nothing is going to happen.
It’s wonderful to hear how Vic has helped you out on several occasions. I help people out yet seek no recognition. My friends help people out seeking no reward or recogntion. That is part of our culture. We Rotanese help each other out despite our differences. Those who live on the island contribute in one way or another to help ease the hardships we all face. People in the mainland work hard to provide for their families there and here. That’s a given. What I wanted to see more from Victor is that if he has the intention of running for office, or even just to be a silent leader, change must have been done in the community. I have yet to see changes from him. I have yet to witness his involvement in activities that seek public comments. I have yet to see his actions that would tell me how Rota can move forward. All of these things can be done without the title of lawmaker.
Now, I respect the fact that your know the plans of your candidate and that is because they are your candidate and it seems to me like you are a strong supporter and stand behind their platform. Give PF the time to come out and show for what they have. What happened last week was an informal campaign aimed at getting their supporters together to prepare for their campaign. So do not jump into conclusions or spread rumors that they hids in the jungle unless you are sure that the meeting they had was in fact an actual campaign. I mean, they haven’t had their kick off yet. I’m sure that when the time comes, we will see what they have to offer. But for right now, I question Victor’s motives because they are currently the only ones making a move.
I try my best to leave out the family because it’s enough they are now living in a glass house (metaphor). They stand by their candidate and for that I respect them enough to leave them out of any political badgering. Yet you decide to bring in Prudencio, the father of Paul. That’s why people bring up disrespect. And the argument for that is politics. Okay, well I ask that if any of you decide to reply to my comments, to please leave out all individuals other than the candidate. Off course with the exception of using names to show positive recognition such as the ones I’ve used of Bill, James, Brian, Mr. Calvo, and Shaw. With that said, I retract an earlier reply to Ms. Patty Beth’s post and apologize for bringing in her family. Please do accept my apology as my goal here is to question the motives of the candidates and to shed some light to some of the issues I am struggling to understand.
To Jade:
Can you please answer the following questions? What are the goals of Senator Paul and his running mate Felix for the island of Rota? And can you tell me how they plan to execute these goals? And I accept your apology. Anything I say is coming from me, PATTY BETH MENDIOLA HOCOG. Do not ever bring my family, especially my DAD into this, because you know that he has done A LOT for the people. Thanks.
As public servants you give up your right to a private life to become the representative of the people. I do not believe Rota observer is bringing up Paul’s father to be negative, but to prove a point that there has been discrepancies for much longer and it stems beyond Paul. It seems to have carried on because no one questioned or challenged these public servants just as you (Jade) are concerned for your livelihood. We have not even touched the tip of the iceberg in regards to wrongs that have been done and we do not plan to go there.
You bring up family (Paterno) and then react to supporters of Victery bringing it up (even though we are talking about public servants who must be questioned and reviewed-they are working for us), you say you are looking for a platform from Victery to make your decision, yet you are very in tune with PF and seem to have your mind made up, you say Rosa Parks and try to make a connection with Paul (really?), you talk “disrespect” yet it is evident through PF supporters and their candidates that they are no angels, you talk about no action from Victor, yet Paul has had years to take action but it only seems like action when convenient. This is flip-flopping and I am not trying to be negative, but trying to keep the intregrity of this platform, as we have opened it up and to all sides and allow your views to be heard and taken into consideration. I now ask that we get back to the real issues and begin our path to finding solutions no matter which side we are on.
I cannot understand why the remarks of AJ Mundo seem to be the only topic discussed on the Paul-Felix social media pages? Disrecpectful to people who are not suffering from our leadership? We have the freedom of speech and this is a social network, not a newspaper with a quote! Our frustrations for decades of failed service to the public is the reason for this outcry and show this frustration. All of a sudden, no one had been disrespectful or has said a comment like this. Common, I have heard the same phrase said about my family and of the candidates I have supported more than enough, yet it is a headline when one person outside the CNMI is finally fed up and venting on her personal Facebook page. Let’s talk about the issues and about what candidates have done for our island and their plans to align us with the future.
AJ MUNDO is being attacked because she is vocal about HER VIEWS and what she BELIEVES in! They are using her as a reason not to support VicTery, when she is not the one running for office. They have nothing else to say and they are to shoot down the people that are not in support of them. Just as we’ve seen it in history, even in the U.S., people who are vocal about their views are often discredited, so they make a difference in the redundancy. They seem to forget that AJ is exercising her constitutional right, just like everyone else. I don’t see why the other team can’t get someone vocal as well, who can promote their candidates effectively and positively!!
Yes..Indeed..Everyone has the right to exercise their constitutional rights..Like myself, I’ve heard others, voice their views and have questioned them…but when I voice my views and opinions and it differs from others, it’s defined as disrespect..Understand, I’m not shutting up!!..I’m on a mission..A mission to continue to wake people up, enlighten all, and make a difference..To help Revive Rota!…Thanks all for the support..I’m just a face behind many voices…inspired by the unheard…One luv..
Loyalty to Paul/Felix this election. He employs a family member and had asks us to support that ticket. Pukliku finenena is our vote because she said he works for the people of Rota and thats why we vote for Paul.
Paul u gots my vote. Loyalty ombi, loyalti. Victery ticket, maybe if u promise to keep that employee we support u after, but dat employee said to vote PF ticket.
This is the type of mentality we are trying to eliminate from people…Vote for the best candidates that will work for the betterment of Rota..
I can understand how our people feel compelled to protect their livelihood in Rota where jobs are scarce and the price of living is unbalanced. It saddens me to think that this is why Paul is receiving votes – for job security rather than what he’s done for the people of Rota for over 2 decades. Victery is pledging to find ways to create jobs for our people and we need to change our thinking and remeber that no one can see who we vote for in that booth! My heart goes out to all those that are suffering and to those that are scared to lose their job by voicing their beliefs and exercising their right to vote for whoever they believe in. It is a new time and we want all of us to change these ways and be loyal to the children of Rota.
So, if my cousin lose her job, you going to put food on the table?
PF ticket ombi, das da way to proceed with the continued progress. Si, Senata Paul is employing my prima, so we support loyalty, duh!
So you mean to tell me that you’re only gonna vote for him because your cousin is working for him? How about the hundreds of others who don’t have a job? Does Senator Paul put food on the table?
isn’t someone having an affair with another employee?
This is in response to Joseph Ogo Jr’s post on 4/22/12 via facebook: Ai adai boy! Before you start talking about how disrespectful the VicTery supporters and their candidates are, you better check your own. How is this for respect? One day I came home and found a BIBA PAUL-FELIX sign on MY PROPERTY, MY LAND, MY HOUSE, MY ABODE. I DO NOT REMEMBER giving anyone from that team permission to put their signs ON MY PROPERTY! ENIGI’ RESPETU??? Esta ennao fina’ga’ga’!! Ma li’e’ na esta guaha VICTERY sign gi lugat-hu lao man halom si man ga’ga’ ya ma pega sign niha sen ma konsutta yu’. IN ADDITION TO THIS, Manglona For-Senator and Biba Paul-Felix are busy tagging people on their picture/slogan/poster without asking premission, unlike Team VicTery, who had the respect of only sharing the page, and leaving it up to the individual to “like” the page. BIBA SPAM-Felix all the way!!!Publiku Finene’na. Public First. Their plan is to put the public first. Senator Paul push to get the betelnuts to Guam. CNMI can generate revenue when exporting betelnuts to Guam. Another point for SPAM and another accomplishment in his long list. Felix is going to help Senator Paul. Even though Terry is his cousin, he will put the public first. Not his family. SPAM-FELIX ALL THE WAY..Boo Victor and Terry.
Biba-Spam:
How does Paul and Felix plan to make Rota better? Please be specific. Thanks.
Thanks for allowing “limited quantities” of Betelnut from CNMI to enter Guam!
But who benefits from this besides private growers? How can this help the island of Rota? Is there a way to tax this? Yeah we can export it, but there is a limit of 50 lbs – is this really our way to help the economy? Is this really that important in regards to what our island of Rota is experiencing? I mean there is a limit, there is no plan to make it benefit the public, it is a health concern, we have not eduacated our young about risks – will this Revive Rota? Who will this benefit and why are we not focusing on our lack of health care instead?
SPAM DID NOT GET THE BETELNUT TO GUAM. HE JUST TOOK CREDIT AWAY FROM GOV. CALVO!!!!! IT WAS CALVO THAT MADE THE MOVE, PAUL JUST SO HAPPEN TO BE ON GUAM WHEN THE DISCUSSION WAS ON THE TABLE, PLEASE DON’T STEAL CREDIT AND MAKE IT HIS! LAMO
The reason for all the negativity that is going on is because people wait until the last minute (election time) to voice out their concerns. They remain silent until it comes time to vote and then they go off ranting about what would’ve, could’ve, should’ve been done.
Where were you when decisions are being made by our lawmakers? Why did you not take a stand, or better yet ask somebody who shares the same concerns to make that argument for you? Why suffer and let your anger build up when it comes time for a re-election? If anyone is truly sincere in their attempts to bring forth a better time, this should have been done a long time ago.
If everyone spoke out their concerns from the get go, the only thing we would be focusing on now is what each candidate would have to offer. That is when we can clearly distinguish which individual presents better opportunities. We dwell on a past in which we all contributed in-a past not brought to us by our leaders but by each other. We are all given that consitutional right to freedom of speech yet we neglect to use it in the process.
In a school setting, do you see teachers making changes at the end of the school year or do they do that in the process. The latter, off course because they want to assure that students are treated fairly.
In prayer, do you pray to God/god everyday or only when someone in your family becomes sick or bed ridden? Most of us do the latter.
When working in the corporate world, are you given performance feedback when your contract ends or in the middle of your employment for hopes of improvement?
If you chose to be silent all these time while our leaders are making the decisions, then keep the negativity to yourself because the statute of limitations has passed in voicing out your concerns. Now it’s time to focus on what each one can offer. If you are going to bring up the faults of each candidate, then argue using facts (documented or in black and white). Many of use fall prey to rumors or statements of what he said/she said. Many of use use personal vengeance to persuade others to follow suit. Don’t be blinded by the “hearsays” that goes on around us. There’s a reason the Judicial system was formed and for that, the accused is given the chance to prove that he/she is innocent until PROVEN guilty.
So, with all that was said, share your thoughts, ideas, concerns, but in a respectable manner. Comment with ideas that would persuade us to choose the right candidate.
I dont know whether admin is the person managing this site or an individual hiding behind a name. If it is the manager of this site, I apologize if what was being said changes the mood of your site, but I enjoy coming here and sharing my ideas if others are willing to listen rather than become defensive and fight back in defense of their candidate.
It is I..AJ Mundo..Never hid..and you are??…Correct yourself..We’ve been screaming for a while now…
AJ,
YOU GO GIRL!
Jade,
I must apologize for all the defensiveness in our replies. We are merely reacting to what we thought was an attack on our integrity and Revive Rota is not about working against you. We are about hearing you out. You always have great information and a fresh perspective that needs to be represented on here.
In regards to admin replying, there is a growing team of contributors that write and gather research for us. Our mission is clear – Revive Rota with Victor Hocog and Terry Santos. We do not want to allow another term for Paul Manglona. We are voting to Revive Rota not voting based on traditional priorities. We are the next generation leading the way – and we all don’t have to agree on everything, but we can work together.
Thanks for bridging the gap and allowing us all to share opinions and express our concerns.
Be Heard! Join our conversation.
I don’t know where have you been “Jade” but the people have been voicing out their concerns. And you comparing them to MLK and Parks? Really? That was a totally different subject. That was a fight for equality for African Americans. Just because we weren’t as “active” as they were doesn’t mean we didn’t object to some of the things that Senator Paul did.
Now people are realizing that it doesn’t hurt to be heard. We have someone who is willing to be our voice. To speak for those who have been suffering under Paul’s regime. The people of Rota are tired of suffering. We are living from paycheck to paycheck. We’re struggling and we worry on how we’re gonna put food on the table. We question ” Do I have enough gas to get me to work this week?”
VicTery is our voice. VicTery is the PEOPLE’S Choice!
Jade…I am the face of the many voices thats been crying but yet unheard…Others are Slowly but surely coming out…Encouraging you too as well….You shouldn’t be afraid…Exercising your freedom of speech is your constitutional rights…In all fairness…You know who I am..Now in response to your posting..I along with others have been voicing even from afar..The difference is..Along with some..we have taken other steps to be heard…Let me recognize Julie Ogo for her desire to reach out to our people..We’ve channeled ourselves through her and helped reach out as well…Ill enlightened you all with more soon..and why Vic…
It is funny how we (AJ and her team) are not on the Island of Rota physically and not involved directly with the politics, yet we are commited to making a difference and providing new ways to help and have over the years! We are not moonlighting just for the political season! We have been committed and seem to be doing more for the future of our island than a career politician with 25 years under his belt. Check the resume and see what we have done in the United States for our people and how we have represented for the Island of Rota!
I came from a very poor family with many siblings.Father worked for the government and my mom was a house wife. Over the years, we were “die hard” Manglona supporters. I’d have to admit that my parents were naive, that come election time, a Manglona would show up and befriend my folks. They were blinded by the attention given to them as if they really cared. Gave my parents monetary donations in exchange with ensuring that the family votes were secured. Arguing or having any kind of opinion with my folks against the Manglona’s were unacceptable. But after election, they forgot about my folks and too embarass to even let it be known to others that they were somewhat friends. My parents are gone, and I’m now grown. Ashamed that my parents were fooled, but unblinded for what I’ve observed. Along with my 7 siblings and their children, we say this to you Paul. Matai ham ha’ papa’ ti bai en na’chagi hao nu i botun-mami. Not all Manglona’s specifically this one.
The next time you refer to an individual, call that individual out for his/her name because although your last sentence says not all manglona, it sure seems like you are referring to a wider group of people. So next time, SPECIFICALLY refer to the individual(s) in question.
One more thing. This goes to show you have no respect for your parents. Calling them naive? Im sure if they were smart enough, they would make the right decisions. I mean, they raised you didnt they? Otherwise, if they were naive, then they have raise a naive child as well. Would you be saying the same thing if they were still alive? They made that decision to vote for their candidates. People share different opinions. If you felt any differently, then by all means, vote differently. Don’t go calling the people who loved and adored you naive for you only show disrepect and no appreciation.
Biba SPAM-FELIX Raffle. $20 1st place Land. Help Support.
Yea because he has plenty of the PEOPLE’S land to give away.
Doesn’t his family own like half of Rota because they buy buy buy and take take take??? His daddy works for DPL long time ago, so he trade trade trade, under table dealings
it’s called hard work. I’m sure you’ve never done it. Under the table? If there are so many irregularities or illegal activity then why not report it? If you’re too scared it will ruin your reputation or that it will hurt you and/or your family, then that’s your problem for not standing up.
So again, Hard work. When you work hard, you get rewarded. Just like when you work hard in college, you get a degree that pays much more than someone who works without a degree or certificate. Then, that person who makes more can buy a lot of stuff because it is their hard earned money.
All was said was a raffle that has a land as a prize. Then you bring up plenty land, and buy buy buy take take take. Open your eyes.
Maybe you should run for office so you can get plenty land and take it away and do under the table dealings, if thats what you think happens when you get elected. Immature if you ask me.
Come on, our whole island works hard! Unfortunately, our island is based on getting ahead through politics and aligning yourselves with the winning party. People get opportunities through being in office and make opportunities for themselves – even if under the table. Just cause there is no evidence of these dealing doesn’t mean it is not going on or didn’t happen. Our people are smarter than you think.
When I say hard work, I meant work hard at getting a degree or a certificate proving your ability to perform certain tasks. I know every one on Rota works hard in the sense that they are paying a higher price for the cost of living. Don’t get me wrong. People work hard in advancing themselves by pursuing higher education or other avenues that will enhance their skills. Which is how they end up with getting more than the average Joe. Then the ones who do nothing about it end up accusing of those who work hard for their misdealings.
I know that the people of Rota are smart. However, if there is no evidence, then that’s just it. No Evidence. That is why we have the justice system in place. If there is no evidence, then there is no case. People can simply spread a rumor just to defame someone who they do not see eye to eye with. Then as the rumor spreads, some turn it into the truth and that’s the problem here. Many of us Rotanese are quick to judge and act on a rumor when in fact, its just rumors. Until we see that hard fact evidence, then we can truly justify the claim that there as been illegal dealings. If it was under the table, then by all means, dive the glory details so that the guilty parties can argue their case.
The commentor didn’t ask you for your opinion, how immature if you ask me. You must be a child of Paul since you speak as if you are. Either way, we both know that it is nearly impossible for one single family (Paul and siblings) to garner over 300,000 of sq meters or more of property in the CNMI. WOW, hard earned? People have their whole lives working hard and its politicians like those serving 20 years and more that block steps to success. Hard earned? Like how Paul was recently called out for using government funds, illegal. Now that the new lawyer is barred, we should dig it up and really see the illegal acts of Senator Paul. But we represent our interests right?
Anyway Jade, if that’s even your name, you speak speak speak speak about who what when where and why Paul is the best candidate, but what really has paul done? Set the stones in place SHOW us what did he really do? Built a park? Improved our schools? Sidewalks? Businesses? Oh wait, that’s all CIP money, now what did he do again besides collect his $4,200 a month subsistence every month? About $50,400 a year with his $39,000 salary. Total of $89,400 (excluding the leadership SLUSH fund)… how, HARD EARNED MONEY HUH? I guess you really do get rewarded in the end.
Isn’t this a site to share comments? Keywork, COMMENT. IN MY OPINION, im pretty sure im making a mature decision to post a “COMMENT” based on what I feel like saying.
When you calculate the amount that sen. paul makes a year, don’t you think that money was used to buy land? doesnt it make sense to invest in real estate to pass on to your family for them to have a place to live in? isn’t that what real estate is all about too? buy and sell? thats not called self interest, its called a paycheck. thats called making use of the money that has been awarded for you for the work that you do. Just like how many struggling families still have the money to go to the poker, play tongits, and drink beer.
i dont have to list the accomplishments that paul has done because most of it are available to the public. search it up yourself. i know why im voting for him, obviously you dont, so do some research just as how i have done some on victor.
so far, what ive been writing on this site is to get rid of the negativity that comes from both sides, aside from being biased. I defend him by arguing to people who always brings the past, especially the prior 4 terms, which if I may remind you again, the people had voted him in. All I asked about the opposition is to shed light on what victor has to offer (as part of my research.)
people on rota have worked hard for the same amount of time as Paul yet don’t bring home as much bacon because they take on jobs that does not require too many skills or traits as do a lawmaker. they say work hard because they fail to further themselves through education or training. i dont blame them though as many are not aware of the opportunities out there. but just imagine, if you knew about the opportunities and had taken the time and sacrifice to go off and better yourself, you could get a high paying job that could get you lots of money, money for the hard work you put in, then come back to rota and buy all the land thats left. (total square meters in the CNMI minus (-) 300,000 square meters. That would be a great investment as you could use that land and sell to other people and become rich.
AN ARTICLE FROM THE MARIANAS VARIETY ON FRIDAY, APRIL 27, 2012. AN GREAT EXAMPLE OF HOW SENATOR PAUL PUTS THE PEOPLE FIRST. I THINK HE NEEDS TO CHANGE THE SLOGAN TO PF – PAUL FIRST. JUST SAYING
THE Fitial administration and the House of Representatives expressed disappointment over the Senate’s lack of action on the bill allowing the Commonwealth Health Corp. to borrow money from Marianas Public Land Trust.
With Rep. Froilan C. Tenorio, Covenant-Saipan, and Rep. Joseph M. Palacios, R-Saipan, absent, the House unanimously passed the bicameral conference committee’s version of House Bill 17-278.
Introduced by Rep. Ramon S. Basa, Covenant-Saipan, the bill allows MPLT to provide CHC with a $7 million line of credit.
The amount was originally $10 million plus the $1.58 million that CHC needed for its electronic record system. But Gov. Benigno R. Fitial earlier declared a state of emergency at the hospital, allowing MPLT to provide CHC $4.58 million.
The hospital is still under a state of emergency, and was hoping to get $7 million so it can continue taking care of its patients, especially those needing dialysis treatment.
But in his memorandum yesterday, Senate President Paul A. Manglona, Ind.-Rota, said they cancelled their session “until further notice” at the request of the Senate conferees.
The Senate conferees told Manglona that they and their House counterparts agreed to pass a separate bill that will turn the CHC board from an advisory into a governing entity.
Manglona said this bill will be passed “simultaneously” with H.B. 17-278 in their next session.
“The Senate will schedule its next session upon such time that the House of Representatives passes and transmits to the Senate the bill that it agreed to pass during the conference committee regarding H.B. 17-278,” Manglona said.
This irked the administration, CHC CEO Juan N. Babauta and House leaders.
Press Secretary Angel A. Demapan said the Senate’s decision “is certainly of grave concern.”
He added, “While it is unclear at this point when the session will be called to order, the administration remains hopeful that the senators will act according to their words when they pledged to help be a part of the solution of the ongoing crisis besetting our healthcare corporation.”
He said the governor hopes that “politics is not the reason behind holding off Senate sessions, especially at a critical time when the health and welfare of our people is at stake with each passing day.”
In a telephone interview, Babauta said he was also very disappointed.
“I’m not sure what else I can say to the Legislature,” he said, adding that he has repeatedly discussed with lawmakers what the hospital has been going through.
The hospital’s situation, he added, is dire.
Because of the delay in the enactment of H.B. 17-278, Babauta said they will have to implement the contingency plan, which includes shutting down services, except for the emergency room, in-patient medicine pediatrics, intensive care unit, neo-natal intensive care unit, dialysis unit and ancillary services.
Speaker Eli D. Cabrera, R-Saipan, said dialysis patients fear that the dialysis center may shut down this weekend due to lack of supplies. He said he has been receiving calls from his constituents asking him to tell the senators to do something before that happens
PAUL FIRST ALL THE WAY, I MEAN PAUL FELIX ALL THE WAY. HAHAHAHA HEHEHEHE PAUL FIRST, THIS IS A JOKE. HE IS ALWAYS LOOKING AT SELF-INTEREST, PEOPLE AFTEr.
Please do enlighten me with “Self-Interest” because I’d be glad to counter argue.
Jade, what else do you expect people to think when our island is suffering from a lack of leadership over a long period of time, yet a politician continues to be able to create opportunities for himself on a senator’s salary. It just doesn’t add up to many? Our public speculates and there is public outcry. Let’s say we were doing a better job and opportunities were available for more people because legislation was created to benefit more instead of a huge gap that is evident given the current state of Rota. If only more was done for the island – the track record doesn’t help. I mean in 25 years you should have an extensive list of what you have been doing. We just what answers as to why we are going through this and why wasn’t this prevented.
Lack of leadership? C’mon, did you not read my post further down the line regarding the 20+ years of service? Why did the people continue to elect him then? If you blame Paul for what has not been done, then you might as well blame the majority of the Rota population for keeping him this long. It is not fair to argue what he has done years prior to his last election when the people voted him in. It is fair however to target what he has done for the past years since his last election.
Again, please do enlighten me about how Paul has “created opportunities for himself on a senator’s salary” because if I’m not mistaken, I asked to please enlighten me with self-interest. What are those opportunities you referring to?
Its unfortunate that the sick gotta be dragged under yet again!!! Its bad enough we’re in a state of poverty we gotta kill those who are in dire need…. And YES!!! I do mean kill… because that is what’s happening!!! Come on House…. Do what needs to be done and save our people… Enough mind games about the right move to better your political standing!!! These are our people… In need…. In pain…. And at the mercy of your law making!!! Our islands are on life support and we need strong leaders to make the painstaking decisions NOW!!! Get back in the office and VOTE for crying out loud!!! VOTE YES FOR LIFE!!!
from facebook….
>>>>deanna manglona:lol. seriously. why didn’t they just ask me what i meant by irrelevant. ai lokkue. to reiterate your comment, the meaning of my statement “so irrelevant to my life…” means that I don’t need politics to survive. my parents and siblings don’t need it either. i’m happy though that people take time to read my comments and elaborate on them. puts the spotlight on me even for just a minute. i should enjoy the attention i’m getting. my most favorite quote of mine is when i used the word “na’ma’ase”. boy, if people only knew the real reason why i used the term. too bad, i can’t find that picture with my original comment. anyway, i was referring to how ignorant and disrespectful people are with respect to other people’s property. so yes, i feel sorry for them that they lack any guidance. hopefully our good Lord shines some light on them. <<na’ma’åse’<
doll, people only look at you and your comments because your are suppose to be a better image.. i say again "better" because what you say counts!..sa'si tatamu nai si paul!.. debe di un na mamaolek hafa un sasangan todo tiempo sa guaha taotao man a'atan hao.PUT si ta'tamu!ya ma ekspepeta maolek para un sasangan.ahi ti put ma guaiya hao lao ma tutufung kada biahi todu siha i båba yan maolek un sasangan nu siha(the people of rota" i taotaomu doll!..ti man "na'ma'åse'" i pachot mu na'ma'åse..despensa yu' lao inipus mapos palabrasmu. ayek maolek ya'on decedi maolek na palabra para un usa sa guaha taotao man a'a'tan ya ma ekspepekta maolek ginen hagu!
use the right choice of words because there's people who try(atleast) to look up to you and they expect "Better"..
"Revive Rota"
Like Valeen and Viony are any better? C’mon. It is true though, that people do not need politics to survive. When a family is under attack, you fight back in defense for their reputation. The people who are irrelevant to me are those who I have no relationship with or those who choose to go against me. The people who are relevant are those who stick by you and support you no matter what. The PF team is irrelevant to the VT team and vice versa in the sense that they go against each other. If they were to share ideas and even hold a common ground, then they become relevant. Now, to the candidates, EVERYONE is RELEVANT because they make decisions for everyone else. Deanna chose to identify the irrelevant as someone who has no impact to her life and hers alone. It may have a purpose for her fathers life but not hers. She has her family to worry about and she, along with her partner, chose a career in which politics does not affect.
The only thing relevant in my life are my family and my job which by the way, is not affected by politics.
The writing style of Jade resembles that of deanna manglona as quoted from facebook. Coincidence or truth?
***thinking out loud****
it’s a coincidence that my writing style resembles that of deanna’s but definitely not deanna. keep on guessing.
i guess the term you could use is piggy back. or in addition to. or in reference to. or to further explain.
so forgive me if im sounding like someone else.
I am who I am…..victery all the way from dugi’ to the back of wedding cake mountain.
Food for thought:
VT Supporters have been going at it with the 24 years Paul has been in office. What I don’t understand is how they can bring up that issue when it is the people who have voted him in the past 4 terms. Are you saying that the people have been blinded but now can see? What cause them to finally see what’s right in from of them? When the going gets tough? Paul has been in office for over two decades. 24 years ago, the economy was good. People were buying what they wanted in addition to what they needed. And now? When times are getting tough they put the blame on the longest serving senator because they can only assume that he has placed us in this slump. Newsflash!! The whole nation is crumbling. It takes time to rebuild. It takes a whole nation to work together to bring us back to where we were. Why is it brought up that people were tricked, blackmailed, paid off, befriended, into voting for Paul? What does that say about the good people of Rota? That they are not so good after all? That they were vulnerable? Please! Every individual is given the right to choose. The right to make good decisions. The right to stand up for what they believe in. The right to VOTE.
The reason Paul has been in office for long is because the people of Rota has never come up with an opponent who is as educated, outspoken, cutthroat, etc. as Senator Paul. They knew that Paul was able to overcome any hardship that was thrown at him. And now that they found someone who could play into the vulnerability of the desperate, they bring up issues with Paul from Day 1 he’s been in office. What is fair is to bring up what Paul has done since his last election. Whether it is something or nothing, don’t go digging up issues from the other 4 times he was elected because that’s putting the people down. That’s showing the rest of the commonwealth that our people has been naive and unable to make good decisions.
For those who claim that you’ve been suffering? Then by all means, go out there and get a degree, get certified, join the military, because you’ll either never get to see greener pastures or will take a long time to finally see it. There are ample opportunities for you to pursue your dream. It’s not too late. You don’t need the money to do it. Don’t depend on other people to make your life better when you yourself can do the job. If you choose to live the rest of your life on Rota, then make that sacrifice of bettering yourself then come back. Get used to the fact that opportunities on Rota are limited to what the island can provide.
Although I am a supporter of PF, I remain friends with SOME VT supporters because we respect each other’s candidates. We argue about our differences but we stay true to our beliefs. We come to an understanding of why we made our choices. We Respect those choices. That doesn’t make us bad people, it makes us rational individuals.
I leave you with this: You chose who you are voting for, you’ve argued why, I’ve done the same, now let’s wait until the time comes. For the undecided, take the time to listen to the positive arguments, and pick the candidate who you want to represent you. Be smart and strong. Don’t come back 4 years from now saying that you were paid off, naive, befriended, paid off, etc. Make the right decision.
Let me just share one thing I read on Manglona For-Senator that I hope many people would understand:
“Anyway, back to the importance of understanding about the nation’s economy and how it affects us. Factors like high petroleum costs and countries like China that is able to produce cheaper products and lack of exports that play a part in the hardships we endure. People lose trust in the economy and instead of helping circulate the dollar, they save. High cost of fuel leads to shipping companies increasing their costs, then this leads to companies that bring in shipments and containers to increase their costs, then this leads to stores increasing their costs for goods to make some profit and this makes it harder for us to buy the basic things in life. High fuel leads to high cost of electricity. It goes on and on. You have increased military spending that is cutting the budget that would be used to providing more federal assistance like food stamp and housing for those who need it. The list goes on, Ms. Mesa. It is not one person’s fault. I hope this clears up some issues you have. Thank you.”
Many people on Rota do not begin to fathom the factors that affect our economy, especially the CNMI. They are quick to judge and point fingers, especially to the longest serving senator. Every year he is faced with difficult tasks, and issues that arise which adds on the the plate. The people on Rota are paying a larger price for living because our exports are limited to the what Rota can offer, which is very little. There are many issues we face yet it takes time to resolve. Rome was not built in a day and was definitely not built in 24 years. People make it seem like there’s this one problem that Paul has not fixed since he has been in office. What they fail to realize is the number of problems that show up at his doorstep every year. When he has to focus on the economy, the Retirement problem comes up. When he makes time for the Retirement problem, the Health Corporation comes up. Then there’s the problem with food stamps, immigration, the education system not getting enough funds, the shipment of goods to Rota, Freedom Air, Saipan casino, and the list goes on. How do you expect one man to fix all these? if 9 senators cannot do it, it is unfair to place all that pressure on just one man. Now is not the time to elect someone new. Now is not the time to change leadership. Now is not the time to take out someone who is not afraid to go against the Governor, who a lot of people are afraid to do.
Let us Revive Rota in the sense that we provide our solutions by giving it to the elected officials. Let us Revive Rota in the sense that we play our roles as citizens by teaching our younger generations to become active members in our society. Let us Revive Rota in the sense that we also come up with solutions in addition to what the candidates have to offer. Do not depend to much on the people we elected to make the decisions when we too have that opportunity to change the world we live in. A world separate from politics.
As you can tell by most recent spur of comments, I chose not to speak ill of Victor because I know for a fact that he is an amazing individual. Despite his past misfortune, I believe people should be given a second chance to fix their mistakes and change themselves for the better. As a matter of fact, I’ve never voted against Victor except for what I’m about to do. And that is because I felt Victor was a better candidate in the other positions he ran for.
The only thing I speak of is my decision to chose Paul and that is because we cant fix what is not broken. And Paul, my friend, is not broken.
I have a feeling that someone might lash out at what I just posted. So I ask that you please do so in a positive manner. I value everyone’s opinion as I hope they value mine.
Ok sure don’t blame all problems to 1 senator when there is 9, BUT SHOOTS SI PAUL HAS BEEN THERE SINCE 24 years ago and WHAT HAS HE DONE TO SOLVE ANY OR AT LEAST PREVENT ANY OF THE PROBLEMS YOU LISTED. YOU BLAME FREEDOM AIR DID UR DADDY OR UNCLE OR WHATEVER PASS A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING FREEDOM AIR. YOU ARE CONTRADICTING YOURSELF! MAKE UP UR MIND FAN. Dalai lokkue.
Either you didn’t follow all the posts I’ve made or you fail to comprehend what I’m saying. If is the people who voted him in the past 4 terms. Obviously there has been work done for the people of Rota to have voted him in, otherwise, you would be arguing that the people of Rota are STUPID for continuing to support him. Just when we hit rock bottom, people are quick to judge. It’s easy to blame him because he has served the longest, but fail to realize (and let me say this again) that issues arise every year, which pushes others back. He can’t change what goes on in the world, but he can sure keep trying. You may not see bills being passed every session and thats because he is still trying to figure ways to solve the current crisis. It may seem that he is not doing anything because you have not read or seen anything in the news. When tackling a problem with corporation, or a large entity, sometime it takes time to find a solution, the best solution, rather than a quick fix, which everyone is looking for.
I don’t know where in my comments do you find myself contradicting what i’ve said earlier. Your statement about a resolution to freedom air does not make any sense either. Next time you want to point me out for being contradictory, then please highlight the phrase or place a reference so I can fully understand what you are trying to accuse me of.
Being all downright negative. Victory supporter I must presume?
Serving 4 terms in office doesn’t automatically equate to hard work, and it’s not like everyone voted for our current Senator – the other side just didn’t have enough support! Why are we only fighting back now that we have hit rock bottom? Well Jade, it’s because the effects of poor leadership are now coimg to light as it was only a matter of time for the truth to come out. So now those that used to support the good ‘ol Senator have realized their mistakes and have embraced someone different to try a new way to help Rota. How much time do we need to give a Senator to solve issues? I think enough time has been given and we need a new direction! No need to highlight the phrase or place a reference – I think the people have a clear understanding of what is going on and you (Jade) should too!
wondering what’s the next step to bring Rota forward… Paul? Victory? Felix? Terry?
Felix is a shadow behind Paul, not a good spotlight for the good man. boohoo.
Victor is a shadow behind Fitial, not a good spotlight for the good man. Pobrecito.
Shadow or not – it’s time for all politicians to work together for the better of the CNMI. I think working with the elected leader of the CNMI is a good light – why fight? We achieve nothing – I thought PF supporters didn’t sling mud? All these smug jabs and yet you say we are negative – negativity is a product of a failed administration who must answer to the people and lack a resume that should have been acquired over the time in office – Common – there should be an endless list of accomplishments, but we know the truth! It’s in the pudding that is our island’s current state. That’s not a good light for our current Senator – let’s work on that first!
WE THANK YOU ALL!!
Vic and Terry
For Senate & For Representative (Incumbent)
The platform will be elaborating on these preliminary ideas soon – for more information leave a comment or send us an email kmmnwlth@gmail.com
At this time of the year, going back to the islands is like heading to a battle zone. It’s sad to say, yet many walk on eggshells slowly taking each step because their livelihood depended on it. We all experienced the wrath of politics. My honest opinion, it’s heartbreaking to see that with such hunger for power it would break families and friends apart. The biggest flaw that we have is when election year comes around, we spend more time pointing fingers and dissecting the faults of the running candidates rather than actually looking for a leader to help our people. Instead of spending time looking for mistakes or flaws, we need to start seeing platforms and ideas to help bring our island back to life. We don’t need promises, we need ACTION! We don’t need faces, we need LEADERS! I recall many years ago, a friend of mine had came to Rota to site see. I remember one thing she had told me that made me proud. She felt welcomed and she realized that Rota is known to be “The Friendly Island”. What I don’t understand is that we can be friendly to the visitors, yet we can’t be friendly to our neighbors or member who is supporting a different party at this time of the year. Many will agree and many will disagree. My question is, is what’s the point of recognizing the flaws and badgering the running candidates if that does not solve the problems. The people has suffered long enough yet we failed as a community to work together. 4 candidates vs 2,000 people from the community or 4 candidates vs 8,000 people from the community. 8,000 hands and voices vs 4 can find the solutions. Instead of depending on our candidates or current office officials depend on the community because 8,000 pairs of hands and voices is better than 4. Don’t you agree? The decision is ours! The million dollar question is, are we going to single each other out or are we going to work together to help Rota. It shouldn’t be a battle field, it should be a place where we can always catch a smile.
Why must we walk on eggshells? Why are our people not able to exercise their right to support the candidate they believe in? It is heart-breaking – but we must see where this all stems from – it is pretty evident that it comes from the leadership that has been in place for 24 years and even more years before that! I think we owe the people of Rota a different leader who can learn from the mistakes of the past – whoever we point the finger at – we need to help our island and cannot continue on this course with the current administration – no offense – and we are not being negative, but this time around we have no time to affford! I agree we do not need promises but action and the action is giving some one else a chance to lead!
I agree that we have to work together – and after all the smoke clears and the people make their choice – we have to all contribute to reverse the effects of not being proactive! Even people abroad want to help and we must embrace them – they are not fair-weather friends but people who truly care about their island! WE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH OF THAT! It’s great to hear your neutral stance and we agree with what you have said! We just feel the choice is clear and it is time to pass the torch and allow someone else to give this a shot! We owe it to our people!
Jade
Stop your crap! We will revive Rota without Paul n Felix!
We’ve heard enough and it’s gonna end! We need changes and not
And a new leadership and that is Vic and tery! Biba victery!
The Truth Hurts, I know. If you don’t like what I’m saying, then by all means, don’t pay any attention to it. This site is to share ideas from all sides and to argue for our candidates. If you are asking me to stop fighting, then this site is one-sided and not open to sharing ideas.
So, you say what you have to say about your candidate. Why don’t you stop the BIBA BIBA or NEW LEADERSHIP, and start talking about HOW your new leadership will benefit the entire Rota community.
Da lai Jade, Victery”s platform is staring right straight at you and still you are not convince. Santa Maria Lokkue.
I do feel sorry for our Senator, but his downfall he brought it upon himself. If you are going to be a career politician, you must do the following: you have to exercise your face muscle to do fake smiles, go to all the parties you get invited to, remember, they are logging down the Chenchule and if you are not there, there goes their votes for you. Wave at every passing cars like Frank Atalig. (This guy will get my vote if he ever runs.) A Must do-Funerals! You must attend, this is the forgiveness time where when you hurt the family during campaign, they will certainly forgive you. At the same time, make sure your spouse help prepare food or swat flies when lunch is being serve at the funeral. Show up at all community activities, not only when it is election time. Do not close your doors to the poor people that voted for you like they have leprosy. Last but not least, teach your children & Spouse to be humble to the people, thinking that they are of royal bloods, snobbish & does not use generic brands may cause a career politician an end to his career.
Dear Voters of Rota:

Once again, the time has come for you to elect your representative to represent your voices on the House of Senate and the House of Congress. These voices are yours. We are certain, committed and assure our people with pure visions for growth to our people, our island and our culture. The crossroad will not be easy, but it’s durable and attainable. We, Terry and I, clearly understand what to do and we can safely say the path to the road of prosperity is not far from making it a reality.

Sincerely Yours,
/s/ Victor B. Hocog & Representative Teresita A. Santos
For Senate For Congress (Incumbent)
I read with muse the exchange of comments from both camps and surely it invites more participations from the public.
I give credits to those individuals who are not afraid to voice out their opinions exposing their real identity and not hide behind alias. I must say, the alias “jade” is not Deanna Manglona(not my relative), Jade is much, much more articulate than her. Let us invite Jade to join our cause, he/she/shim just has to conviince of Vic & Tery’s capabilities. Diba.
I say this about Senator Paul, how it would be nice if He just unselfishly gives another a chance to work now for the people of Rota by saying to Vic, ” hey bro, now is your time to work, I am been in this post for so long, it is about time you do your civic duty to help our island too, because to tell you the truth, I am burn out and not effectively contributing as I used to”. Wow, would that be just great. But no, we just have to have all these unnecessary hates, expenses, family disputes on our beautiful island of Rota. Egos, selfishness, greet befalls even a great man. Why does it have to be like this, Senator Paul? Imagine if you had done this, you would not have lost the respect of so many. And who knows you might have a go for mayorship.
Now I say this to Felix, what in god’s name were you thinking of when you decide to run. It is war zone up at Capitol hill. They will certainly tear you to pieces. Being a DPS director for a short while just does not cut it. You just made your life harder. You will feel the pain of being scrutinize and made to feel dumb as marianas variety gets access by open government act and those comments starts reeling in. Why subject yourself to that. Senator Paul is not worth it. Your ego will be so demoralize. I cannot help but feel sorry for Senator jovita and senator ayuyu. Change is coming and nothing has change. Lord help us all.
Jade! Y don’t u tell me what plans does your candidates have? Apparently
One of them don’t have a degree nor experience to run in the first place!
I think the people of rota know better than to vote for one! Huss laying out the facts! Both my candidates
Have political experiences!
